Newly Renovated St. Regis Beijing Opens in Time for Olympics
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008
After $27 million worth of renovations, the St. Regis Beijing (www.stregis.com) has reopened just in time for the Olympic Games, which begin in Beijing in August. The revamp involved restoring 258 guest rooms, 102 suites, restaurants and public spaces. The renovated property combines European style and Chinese design touches to create an overall eclectic luxury look and feel. The hotel is renown for its water features, included in the newly landscaped gardens. There, too, is a natural spring water spa. Of course, one thing that wasn’t redesigned was the iconic St. Regis Butler Service. Luxury hotels in Beijing should get a big boost from the Olympic Games, which begin August 8 and attract a high number of international travelers. In July, the Park Hyatt Beijing (www.beijing.park.hyatt.com) opened on the top floors of one of the city’s newest skyscrapers.
Meanwhile, The Opposite House (www.theoppositehouse.com) in Beijing is, too, getting ready for the Olympics with its early August opening. Here’s what we’ve found out about it so far. The 99-room hotel has 10 suites, measuring 750 square feet in size. The Penthouse has two spacious floors and an extensive roof terrace.
The vibe at the new hotel was created by Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma. This is his first hotel and his goal was to provide “seamless flowing spaces with subtle movement of sound and water, layers of light and materials appealing to the senses.” The property will be an integral part of The Village at Sanlitun, a new shopping destination that is being developed by Swire Properties, which also developed The Opposite House.
