Bocuse d’Or Culinary Adventure to Lyon

Every two years in Lyon, France, culinary enthusiasts “get their food on” at the Bocuse d’Or World Cuisine Contest. This year’s competition will take place on January 27 and 28 during the SIRHA International Hotel Catering and Food Trade event.

The competition will encompass chef contestants from 24 countries. The U.S. team will be lead by Timothy Hollingsworth of The French Laundry fame. Hollingsworth competed against seven other American chefs in Orlando, FL, for the winning prize of U.S. representation in Lyon.

Chef Michel Bouit, owner and president of MBI Culinary Consulting of Chicago and honorary president of the Bocuse d’Or USA, invites gourmands worldwide to take advantage of a special travel package for visitors to attend the competition while simultaneously enjoying the beauty of Lyon.

The package, called The World of MBI’s Bocuse d’Or Culinary Adventure, allows travelers to visit Lyon January 23-30 and includes VIP admission to the Bocuse d’Or contest, as well as the Mondial du Pain and World Pastry Cup Competitions, exclusive meals and behind-the-scenes tours.

Events, as part of the package, include:
— A Welcome to Lyon Dinner at Paul Bocuse’s restaurant, Le Sud
—Tour the Traboules, the Painted Walls and the 17th-century Basilica of Fourviere
— Visit to La Halle Covered Market, where visitors can sample meats, cheese, fruits and vegetables
— Tour the Bernachon Chocolatier
— Lunch at L’Ostellerie du Vieux Perougers in the medieval village of Perouges
— Dinner at l’Institut Paul Bocuse cooking school restaurant, Saisons
—Visit to Maison des Canuts Silk Worker’s Home & Museum

The “adventure” is actually a series of packages that visitors can choose from, according to their needs. They will have a choice of several three- and four-star hotels with prices ranging from $350 to attend the Bocuse d’Or Gala Dinner to $3,500 for a complete hotel package. The World of MBI is pleased to arrange airfare. Extended stays in Lyon, Paris or other cities in France or Europe are also available upon request.

Best of all, proceeds from the travel package will benefit the World of MBI, “an organization of culinary professionals dedicated to the celebration of life through travel and cuisine, leading travelers to France and other European destinations since 1991.”
